The Best Sunless Tanner for an Error-Proof Glow

Vacation is finally almost here for me! Now that it is, it feels kind of surreal lol. Whether you are going on vacation soon or maybe just want a little glow to make you feel even more fab in your Easter outfit, I wanted to share my favorite tanning products with you all.

Growing up on the beach in Florida, I pretty much had a year-round tan {and lots of freckles lol} without trying when I was a kid. When we moved to Jersey & I was in middle and high school, it was the era when tanning salons became a thing. I wouldn’t say I tanned a ton, but I definitely would go before school dances like homecoming & prom and before spring break and things like that.

In the past few years, I’ve tried to become more conscious of my skin & the impact of real sun and artificial sun from tanning salons. I still want to have a little color to my skin though for special events and leading up to a vacation, so I’ve started to use sunless tanning products more. I’ve tried so many types of sunless tanner over the years, from spa/salon tans {never a spray tan, but before spray tans where they actually scrubbed your skin and then applied a tanner}, to lotions, to sprays, to wipes, to oils…pretty much every type you can imagine, and at all different price points.

Despite trying new things, I have always come back to my favorite self tanner because I really do think it’s the best for so many reasons. And I’ve done the research & continue to lol! I have used these tanning wipes for I don’t know how many years, at least 5, but since whenever they first came out.

So let me tell you why I love them so much & why you should definitely try them if you haven’t!

They give the best color, fast!

Of all the products I’ve tried, these wipes give the best shade in just one use. I can use them the day before or morning of an event & be tan practically right away, which is really convenient. So many other sunless tanners I have tried either give me like no color or require days of use to build up the color I desire, and I often don’t have the time or energy for all of that. With these, it’s one & done! If you want to be even darker or to maintain the tan, you can use them every 2-4 days or so and I’ve never had any issues where the color becomes too built up in spots or anything like that. It still always looks natural and well-blended!

They are easy.

This is huge for me. I have so little time to spare each day with all I have going on, and I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way. Because of this, if something isn’t easy, I just won’t do it. So many sunless tanners out there require a special glove to apply them or you have to wait with it on your skin and then wash it off before getting dressed etc. Personally, these are just not feasible for me or worth it, especially when you have options like these wipes! The application of these is less than 5 minutes for me so totally doable even on the busiest of days.

I do recommend using these right after showering to make sure your skin is as clean as possible of oils or sweat. I also recommend you do a quick exfoliating scrub {I LOVE this one, though it’s pricey, so I mainly use this one} while in the shower either just with a sugar scrub or with scrubby gloves like these. I will say though that I have used the wipes without taking the time to exfoliate & not seen any problems so as long as your skin isn’t super dry or flaky then you can probably get by without exfoliating if you don’t have the time.

After your shower, just dry off, open up a pouch & unfold the wipe. **I’ll note, I am really tall and only ever use one wipe at a time, so that should be all you need. By the time I get to my legs, it feels more dry than at first, but it still works just fine and gives great, even color.** I always start with my face and give it a nice wipe making sure to get all the way up to my hairline. I then go to my chest, lightly do my neck, then arms, belly, back, and work my way to each leg. You just need a nice swipe with the towelette, no need to really rub with it or anything like that. I just keep the wipe open all the way flat on my palm and sweep it around my body. I’ll get into more specifics below about error-proof application.

Once you’ve swiped everywhere, toss the towelette. I then wash my hands with soap and give them a good scrub. Next, and I think this is why these have literally never given me uneven or blotchy color, I always apply lotion to my face and body. I think this just helps to blend the color and hydrate. I put face moisturizer on my face first, and then I apply this body lotion {I love that it comes with a pump so it’s quick & easy!} all over my body. I then wash my hands again with soap and give them another quick scrub to make sure my hands don’t get too much pigment.

Then you can just get dressed and go! These won’t rub off on your clothes or sheets even right after use, which is so nice. They also don’t smell badly like some sunless tanners do. If you used these years ago, they used to have a worse smell, but they have changed that in the past couple years so give them a try again if that bothered you! So if you want to do these right before a wedding or party or even going to work, you don’t have to worry about stinking up the place lol.

They help balance & clear your skin.

This is such a great added bonus. I don’t know what it is that is in these that makes them do this, but they really balance out the skin so if you are having breakouts, oily areas or dry areas, using these will really help with that! In the past, I have used these even at times when I wasn’t worried about being tan, but when I just wanted a breakout to clear up. I’d just use one at night and the next day, I swear, the breakouts were basically gone & usually cleared up fully by the following day. The added glow helps with the complexion of course too! 🙂

If you do want to use them for this purpose and just want to swipe your face rather than your full body, you can cut the towelette in half and store the other half in a sandwich or snack baggy for a few days so it doesn’t go to waste! I’ve done that a number of times.

They are practically error-proof.

Like I said, I have never once had a missed spot or uneven color with these, so I really think my application method is spot on. Just as with any sunless tanner, I go really lightly over the elbow area, just let the towelette brush by and then apply slightly more pressure to finish out the other half of the arm. I do the same for all areas where I’m finishing a swipe, so at the ankles, wrists, and hairline, I just lighten up a tad to make sure there is a natural finish to it. I also go really lightly & quickly just on the tops of my feet to blend it there.

The only area I would say to be a little extra careful about is your dominant hand wrist because as you swipe the towelette around your body, it’s resting on your hand and wrist so getting more pigment there. So just make sure that when you wash your hands each time in between steps, you scrub that inner wrist area briefly to blend up to the forearm just in case.

Also, take off any jewelry like rings & bracelets ahead of time to make sure you can wipe evenly. If you do all these steps like this, you will have a perfect bronzey glow in no time!

They are economical.

Compared to so many other sunless tanners that I have used, these are honestly the cheapest, which is still crazy to me since they are THE BEST! I hope L’Oreal continues to keep them at this great price. I recently tried a really high-end designer brand sunless tanning wipe and I tell you, they didn’t even remotely change the shade of my skin. And they stunk so bad lol! They cost 7 times more than these ones! You can bet I took those back lol.

BONUS! I also wanted to share this great tinted & skin tightening body moisturizer that I discovered. It doesn’t tan the skin or provide lasting color like a sunless tanner, but it gives just a little extra color day-of, while moisturizing and toning at the same time. I love a product that does double duty for me. 🙂 It has a tiny bit of shimmer to it to give your skin that nice airbrushed glowy look, especially in photos. I like to use this for weddings or when I am wearing shorts for the first time in a long time. I have the medium tint, but honestly, next time I would buy the dark because the medium doesn’t have quite enough pigment for me personally.
